Paulownia wood, an environmentally friendly material

Il legno di Paulonia, un materiale che rispetta l'ambiente
Paulownia wood is the most commonly used material in our furniture: a good 70% of Rebecca products are made from this material. Its history (and it's true!) stretches back a long way, as Paulownia has been used for centuries in Japanese cabinetmaking. Paulownia cabinets were used to store the most precious objects, such as silk kimonos and musical instruments. And it's no coincidence. Paulownia is still little-known in Italy, but it's gaining popularity thanks to its many qualities. Have you ever seen one? Its scientific name is Paulonia Tormentosa. A word could never have been more fitting: the Paulownia in bloom, with its splendid lilac hues, is a sight that inspires a profound sense of peace. A characteristic that also makes it highly prized as a garden plant. Obviously, this isn't why we chose Paulownia wood for our furniture (although we'll return to its appearance later). There are entirely different reasons. Let's find out! Paulownia wood: incredibly light yet durable! A few technical details. A cubic meter of this wood weighs 300 to 400 kg. Does that seem like a lot? Let's tell you something else: for most woods, a cubic meter weighs close to a ton. This means that Paulownia wood weighs less than half the average, if not a third. Nevertheless, it is remarkably durable. This translates into furniture that is lightweight to transport yet capable of supporting heavy weights. An insulating and sound-absorbing wood Another aspect that is somewhat overlooked when choosing materials for the home is its insulating properties, especially from a sound perspective. This, then, is another reason why we chose to use Paulownia wood for our furniture: it is highly sound-absorbent. A room featuring this material will be much more soundproof, improving the quality of life at home. But let's also talk about thermal and electrical insulation, two characteristics that should never be underestimated. Paulownia, a waste-reducing tree for our furniture! And here's the beauty, the reason we're most proud of using this wood. Cultivating Paulownia requires little space and grows extremely quickly. What does this mean? It can produce up to seven times more crops than trees like poplar or willow. This translates into high productivity, which minimizes waste. But that's not all: Paulownia wood is environmentally friendly! Its compact foliage provides shade, keeping the soil free of weeds. And its foliage hosts a wide variety of insect species, promoting biodiversity. For all these reasons, Paulownia wood has proven to be the most suitable material for our furniture. From processing to sale, there are no intermediate steps: this, in addition to Paulownia's high productivity, allows us to reduce costs and offer a competitively priced product. Our furniture, durable and extraordinarily lightweight, is created from this wood! Want to learn more? Take a tour of our website and discover our products!
