How to Paint Fruit Crates: Stefania Martini's Tutorial Today I want to share a quick and easy way to paint a wooden crate, a simple technique suitable for everyone! Wondering how to use fruit crates creatively? Well, recycling such humble, discarded materials is a great way to try your hand at DIY and creative recycling. With these painted and colored crates, you can create an original magazine rack, a centerpiece, or decorative objects to complete your decor. First, start by preparing the crate you want to paint: you need to sand the surface you've chosen to make it nice and smooth and remove any imperfections in the wood. You can use some sandpaper and do this by hand, but a sander will definitely do it quicker. Once this is complete, you can begin painting the surface of the box. Print the image or design you want to transfer onto the wood (pay attention to the dimensions!) and cut it out. Then, run a piece of chalk over the back of the paper to color the entire surface. Place the paper on the box and carefully trace the outline of the image with a sharp pen or pencil: the chalk will "transfer" the image's shape to the wood surface, and once you're finished, all you have to do is use a damp cloth to erase the marks! Convenient, don't you think? Start coloring the image, following the outlines drawn by the chalk. A tip? Use acrylic paints and carefully choose your brushes, paying attention to the size and shape of the tip. Once finished, apply a coat of finishing varnish or PVA glue for a glossy, protective effect. And voilà, here's the final result. Your painted fruit crate is ready! You can use it as a cute decoration throughout your home, but it will also make a wonderful, original and unconventional gift idea!
